Residents Push Commissioners to take Action on Ferry System

Residents continued to pressure the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District (PPHTD) administration and commissioners over persistent ferry issues at their April 27 meeting. In an attempt to mollify the understandably frustrated residents—who were primarily from the Eastbank— commissioners voted to amend the meeting agenda and suspend meeting rules in order to approve a resolution that will take a step toward addressing these issues.

Council Votes to Increase Water Rates

The Plaquemines Parish Council approved an ordinance to increase residents’ water bills in order to have the parish water department become more self-sustaining and also included an annual adjustment tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Crawfish Challenge Holds 8th Annual Event

The Plaquemines Social Aid and Pleasure Club held its 8th annual “One Sack Challenge” Crawfish Cook Off on Saturday, April 22. According to the group’s leadership, it was one of the more successful events they’ve put on.

Publish a Financial Statement and Budget for the Administration. We need to know what we are going to be paying for the next four years! Instead of what you have saved for the Parish, tell us what you have made for the Parish. Only a beginning Financial Statement can tell us! Publish Job Descriptions and Salaries including benefits for Council Members and support personnel!

Former three term Attorney General Richard Ieyoub passed away last week at the age of 78. He was currently serving as Louisiana’s commissioner of conservation, overseeing the regulation of all oil and gas activities in the state.
