Cecil M. Kluttz, Jr.

Cecil M. Kluttz, Jr., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Gayle Walter Kluttz for 50 years; son of the late Cecil M Kluttz, Sr. and Gertrude Mecimore Kluttz; loving father of Carl (Katharine) and Charles (Jessica); and grandfather of Braden, Clare, Victoria, Cody, Jonathan, Corynn, Charlea and Jacob. He is preceded in death by his brother Carl Mecimore and survived by his siblings Sarah Beaver (Clyde), Louise Walker (Paul), Cecilia Smith (Eugene), Brenda mas (Randy), Glenda Robinson (Gary) and Eddie Kluttz (Lori), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. Cecil was born in Salisbury, N.C., on November 3, 1944, he grew up in China Grove, N.C., and was a resident of Gretna, La., for over 45 years. Cecil graduated from South Rowan High School in 1963. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served two terms in Vietnam. He was later stationed at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans where he met his future wife, Gayle. Additionally, he was stationed at other locations including Hawaii and North Carolina. He earned a B.S. in management and other degrees from Northwood University and retired as a Sr. Chief after 23 years of service. He later worked as a Risk Manager at Sodexo in Harahan, La., for 25 years. Cecil was a loving and caring person to all. He was a supporter of Camp Challenge, volunteering for nearly 30 years as a Board Member, dining hall director, and various other positions including heading up fundraising. He was an active parishioner of St. Cletus Catholic Church in Gretna and served as an usher at Mass. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends, especially his eight grandchildren. Spoiling his grandkids was his greatest joy. Relatives and friends attended the Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expy., in Harvey, on rsday, November 14, 2024 followed by a second Visitation and Funeral Service at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Ave., in Gretna, on Friday, November 15, 2024.
