Irene Short was born on July 20, 1939 and passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of 64 years to Edward Short. Mother of Edward Short Jr. (Melinda), Michael Short, and Melissa Scheu. Grandmother of Brandon Ryan, T.J. Scheu, Taylor and Savannah Short. Great-grandmother of Nola Susan Scheu. She is preceded in death by her twin sister, Lorraine “Beede” Clipper, brother, Cyrus Ordoyne, and sister Gloria Ragas; parents, Elise Buras, Wallace Ordoyne and stepfather, Herbert W. Buras. She was born in New Orleans, La., graduated from Buras High School, Class of 1958, and lived in Terrytown, La., for over 58 years. She worked as a teller for Delta Bank in Triumph, La., worked for Plaquemines Parish Orange packing shed as a secretary and The Times-Picayune newspaper. She was also a licensed beautician. Rosalie Vegas Pujol

Rosalie Vegas Pujol was taken by our heavenly father on March 20, 2024 at the age of 82. Rose was born in Harvey, La., but traveled to many locations as a Navy wife before residing in Metairie, La., for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Anthony Vegas and Emelda Cantrelle, her brother, Autry Vegas, daughter Deanne Pujol Lopez, and her beloved husband of 53 years, Edward S. Pujol, Jr. Rose ended her years as a resident of Riverbend nursing home in Belle Chasse, LA, where her love of Hershey bars, coca cola and playing cards, as well as her quick wittedness and fun loving personality resulted in her reign as the Queen of Mardi Gras 2022, and made her a Riverbend legend. Rose was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her ever-growing family and will be forever missed. She is survived by her children, Dora Schouest (Lee), Edward S. Pujol, III (Steven), Darla Chin (Richard), Dana Pujol, Erron Pujol (Antonio), and Jennifer Fonseca Alexander (Lee); nine grandchildren, Erica Schouest, Matthew Bertucci (Kelly), Ryan Bertucci (Victorya), Erron Pujol, Jr. (Alora), Kyle Pujol, Glen Schouest (Sacha'), Stephen Bertucci, Richard Chin, Jr., Lindsey Pujol; and seven great-grandchildren, Laine Murphy, Gigi George, Stephanie George, Mara Hancox, Wren Hancox, Mia Bertucci, and Antoine Schouest (and a new arrival due soon); her beloved puppy Pee Wee, and many other family members and friends. Dolores Beauvais

Dolores Beauvais entered eternal life on March 14, 2024 at the age of 99. She was a native of Cutoff, La., and lived in Venice, La., until Katrina then Houma, La. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Newton E. Beauvais, Jr. and her parents Morris A. Compeaux and Sadie Larousse Compeaux. She had 11 children, Newton E. Beauvais III (Late Barbara), Susan Loga (Melvin), Victor Beauvais (Teresa), the late Robin Beauvais, Mark Beauvais, Elizabeth Rigsby (Jimmy), Chris Beauvais (Patricia), Patrick Beauvais (Christine), Joseph Beauvais (Lois), Ann Luther, and the late Bonnie Deck (Don). She was blessed with 55 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Dolores was a devoted parishioner of Annunziata Catholic Church in Houma, La.; Our Lady of Good Harbor in Buras, La.; St Anthony Church in Venice, La.; and St. Ann Church in Empire, La. She enjoyed reading the bible and gardening. She loved spending time with her family especially at her Sunday dinners. Her joy was her grand and great grandchildren and getting time to play with them.

Betty Lane Comardelle

Betty Lane Barthelemy Comardelle peacefully transitioned on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the age of 77. She is the daughter of the late Victor Barthelemy and Christine Barthelemy. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Comardelle. She was a loving mother of Rhonda Comardelle Arceneaux (Carroll) and Debra Comardelle Rankin (Willie). She is the devoted grandmother of Kayla Comardelle, Eleni Melancon (Brian), Emma Rankin, Cassie Rankin, and Donald Arceneaux (the Favorite). She is the loving great-grandmother of Jaimie Matalamaki III, Hayes Melancon and Henry Melancon. She is a loving sister of Sibyl Blanchard and Kirk Barthelemy. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends. She was a native of Buras, La., and in her early years she was employed by Plaquemines Parish School Board as a cafeteria worker. In her spare time, she cleaned houses and cared for the elderly. Betty was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She enjoyed being outside, especially under Debra's big oak tree. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She was predeceased by her late parents, Victor and Christine Barthelemy, and her siblings, Vivian, Denesse and Victor (Junior) Barthelemy. Antoine Duplessis, Sr.

On March 12, 2024, Antoine 'Chine' Duplessis, Sr., transitioned from his daughter's Algiers home surrounded by hischildren,grandchildren,great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, sibling, niece, and nephew to a home of rest, after a long 'Path of Life' of 93 Years. He was born on June 4, 1930, delivered by a Midwife (the late Louella Burke) to the union of the late Ernest Joseph Duplessis Sr. and the late Virginia Williams Duplessis. He was a lifelong resident of Phoenix (St. Sophia) in Plaquemines Parish. During March 15, 2017, Brother Antoine Duplessis Sr. accepted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized at Zion Travelers Baptist Church. He was drenched in the liquid grave by Pastor Tyronne Edwards and Pastor Simone M. Duplessis-Franklin. Prior to Brother Antoine Duplessis Sr accepting his Lord and Savior his life work of Faith and Dedication would begin with his commitment to his community. He attended Rosenwald School which is currently known as Phoenix High School. Brother Antoine was a Laborer/Construction Worker by Trade for various companies for many, many years, and a member of Local Union 99. Brother Antoine was instrumental in supporting his Family's Trucking Business. He was a dedicated Dodgers fan who tried to never miss the world series. He was married to the late Velma Picquet Duplessis for 63 Years. He was the Father of Patricia Ann Thomas (late Dymond III), Elnora Duplessis, Deborah Joyce Isidore (late Harry), Antoine Duplessis Jr (Stephanie), Reginald G. Duplessis, Regina Demolle, Jennifer Hall (Larry), Pastor Simone M. Duplessis-Franklin (Lional), and Aruvina Duplessis. Siblings: Eugene Duplessis Sr (late Louise) and Lois Solomon (Philmore) of 'Republic of Tobago' survive him. He was preceded in death by the late Earnest Duplessis Jr, Claudia Grant, and his Twin Sister Viola Bivens. He is survived by 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren, preceded in death the late LaRon G. Etienne, Rondell Gregory Isidore, and Kenneth Williams Jr. He was the Godfather of Claudia Lewis, Bernard Encalade, and the late Warren Lafrance. He was the Godchild of the late Joseph Augustus. When Brother Antoine's heart would become heavy his 'go-to' scripture was 'Lord teach us to Pray' (Luke 11: 2-4, KJV). Rev. Morris Encalade, Sr., was born on May 3, 1956 to the union of the late Varise John Encalade, Sr. and Dorothy Johnson. He entered eternal rest on Monday, March 11, 2024 at the age of 67. Father of Melanie, Derrick (Taisha) and Morris Encalade, Jr. and Ireon Lemieux. Stepfather of Joseph (Dominika) and Tiffany Thomas. In addition to his children, Rev. Encalade is also survived by sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, nine grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Joel Medric Frederick, Sr., a native of Davant, La., in Plaquemines Parish, was born on July 5, 1958, in New Orleans, La. Surrounded by family, he entered eternal rest at Ochsner Hospital on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 1:06 p.m. at the age of 65. Beloved and proud father of Joel Medric Fredrick Jr. (Jessica) Sheena Frederick Williams. Grandfather of Ziaire Williams, Rylee Frederick, Sanaa Frederick, Paris Williams, Joelle Frederick, and Cam'ron Williams. He was survived by beloved Fiancé' Annie Toombs, his siblings Elton (Michelle), Kevin Frederick, Inez Thibodeaux. Lillian Kimball Hamann

Lillian 'Tilly' Kimball Hamann of Belle Chasse, La., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born on June 5, 1927 to Andrew and Anna Kimball in her beloved city of New Orleans. She was one of seven children. In 1947, Lillian married Roy Hamann, Sr., and went on to have five children. Some of the best qualities she embodied were unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in the care of her mother, children, grandchildren and countless others. Throughout her lifetime, Lillan worked many jobs and touched many lives. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with friends at the Council on Aging. She was a devoted Catholic and loved her community. Lillian was vibrant and accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. Her greatest passion was spending time with family and cheering on her favorite sports teams. Lillian was preceded in death by her father Andrew Kimball Sr. and mother Anna Kimball, siblings Andrew Kimball Jr, Richard 'Butsy' Kimball, Leroy Kimball, Elsie Devillier, Dorothy English, and William Kimball, children Roy Hamann Jr., David Hamann Sr., Dean Hamann, and grandchild David Hamann Jr. She is survived by son Guy Hamann (Chris), daughter Joy Hamann Shackelford (David), daughters-in-law Mary Klein (Claude), Mary Diblasi (Mario), Vicky Hamann (Rob), grandchildren Stacie Lombardino (Matt), Sonny Hamann, Ann Hamann, Scott Hamann (Claudia), Tara Williams (Michael), Jennifer Sampson (Donnie), Jeanine Ewald, Andrea Diblasi, Nicole Hamann (Mark), Jessica Gremillion (Griffin), Sarah Hamann, Natalie Hamann (Ryan), Mandy Richard, and Devin Louviere (Bryan), along with many great grandchildren, greatgreat grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alfred 'AJ' Matthews, Sr., entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the age of 82. He was a native of Minden, La., and a resident of New Orleans, La. Alfred was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School's Class of 1960, and a retired employee of Plaquemines Parish Government. He was a faithful member of Regular Baptist Church, and a former member of First House of Prayer Baptist Church. Beloved husband of 59 years to Mary S. Matthews. Devoted father of Alfred (Pertrina) Matthews, Jr. and Angela Matthews. Son of the late Roosevelt Matthews, Sr. and Bertha Newell. Brother of Carolyn (Edward) Ellis, and the late Sherman Matthews, Annie B. Joyner, Roosevelt Matthews, and Jacob Matthews, Sr. Godfather of Jacob Matthews, Jr. Brother-in-law of Mildred Palmer; also survived by nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Audry Laurent Orgeron entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Joseph Orgeron. Daughter of the late Paul Joseph Laurent and Nora Martha Hymel Laurent. Loving and devoted mother of Robert Michael Orgeron (Lana), Judy Elizabeth Foster (Ray), Maryanne Price (Gregory), Peggy Marie Hudson and the late Kenneth James Orgeron (survived by Tammy) and Cheryl Orgeron. Loving sister of Paul D. Laurent, David G. Laurent, Joyce Shaffer, Jacqueline 'Blondie' Hotard, Beverly Lafont and the late Francis J. Laurent, Richard A. Laurent, Betty Swanagan and Paulette McGinty. Audry is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Audry was born in Westwego, Louisiana and was a resident of Gretna, Louisiana. She volunteered her time helping the homeless in St. Martha Catholic Church Parish. She sewed costumes for the Krewe of Cleopatra and the Plaquemines Parish Orange Queen as well as for many weddings. She was an avid bowler, loved to cook and work in her garden.
