Halfway through the month of October, Leland Walker—an 82 year old resident of Jonesboro, Georgia— entered Plaquemines Parish on a 14 foot kayak paddling down the Mississippi River. For Walker, Plaquemines represented the final segment of his long journey traveling the whole length of the river.
