Though Plaquemines Parish saw a slight increase in its COVID-19 testing positivity rate, the parish remains on a good track with its risk level.

Based on the latest information available on the Louisiana Department of Health website, it is reported that from September 30 through October 6 Plaquemines had a positivity rate of 3.3 percent. This latest percentage represents a small increase in the parish’s positivity rate. The week before (September 23 through September 29), Plaquemines’ positivity rate was 3 percent.

Despite this, Plaquemines remained categorized at a “High” COVID-19 risk level. While nearly every parish in southeast Louisiana (including Orleans, St. Bernard, and Jefferson) are categorized as a “high” risk level, the vast majority of parishes in the northern and western parts of the state are still put in the “Highest” category.

As of now, Plaquemines has a total of 3,803 total cases of COVID-19 and 38 total deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.

In terms of vaccinations, 12,899 vaccine series have been initiated (meaning, they got the first of the two required shots) and 11,468 have completed their vaccination series. Plaquemines’ total population, according to 2020 census data, is 23,515—which means around 55 percent of residents have initiated their vaccine series and around 49 percent have completed it. Percentage wise, the Plaquemines vaccination numbers outpace the Louisiana ones— which are around 52 percent and 46 percent respectively.
