Louisiana continues to have the highest state poverty rate in the nation, even though poverty has declined nationally.
The latest Census Bureau data shows that Louisiana’s three-year average official poverty rate was 19.6%, from 2023-25, compared with 10.2% nationally. In case you were wondering, Mississippi’s rate was 17.6%.
