PABI Hosts State of the Port Address at Cafe Hope

On Wednesday, October 15, local business owners, government officials, and partners of the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District (PPHTD) gathered at Cafe Hope in Gretna to hear the annual “State of the Port Address” hosted by the Plaquemines Association of Business & Industry (PABI).

Last week an alligator was spotted next to the Belle Chasse Post Office where the Plaquemines Medical Center is working on a new parking lot. An observant resident spotted the 7 foot reptile and was able to get the attention of Will Long, of Belle Chasse, who was passing by.

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted last week for lying to Congress. Some say Comey’s indictment was payback for his continuing criticism of President Trump. I’m not sure in reading the facts, but I could tell you from my research that Comey did a huge disservice to a professor at LSU.

Since 2012, America has found itself ground zero for massive and sometimes violent protests. It began with the Trayvon Martin killing in Florida. Then, the Michael Brown protests in Ferguson turned especially violent. And finally, George Floyd, which became an extremely violent national eruption.

The most immediate effect for Louisiana is an end, at least temporarily, to Flood Insurance. The National Flood Insurance Program will expire unless the US Senate accepts without changes the US Housepassed Continuing Resolution (CR) to carry on federal government operations for another seven weeks.

The coroner is mandated by Louisiana law to be a 'conservator of the peace.' This leads the office to be interested in those treatments that can protect our community from widespread illness. We all witnessed what happened during the COVID-19 epidemic when we had no protection against that virus.
