On October 4 of this year I was fortunate to attend a retirement celebration of Chef Ruth Varisco. She was the longtime head of the culinary program at Nunez Community College. She touched many people, encouraging them and cajoling them and sternly telling them how to become better chefs, and at the same time, she was making them into better people.
