Ricky Lee "Starchild" Turner, peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at his earthly home in Harvey, LA at the age of 64. He was the loving and devoted husband to Catherine Turner for the last 44 years. Ricky was born on January 19, 1957, in New Orleans, LA. He was proceeded in death by his parents: Isaac, and Gertrude Turner; brothers: Darryl and Dwayne Turner; Father-in-law: Earl Hill Jr.; grandparents: Joseph Thomas Sr., Toze Bentley, Marie Taylor, and Nelson Turner. Ricky was a lifelong resident of Phoenix, LA, until he moved to Harvey, LA, in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina. He was a 1975 graduate of Phoenix High School. After graduating from high school, he worked for several years at Brown and Root. His professional career eventually spanned from owning and operating his own landscaping business to working at TECO Bulk for several years. In 1977 Ricky was joined into holy matrimony to the former Catherine Hill and unto this union three children were born: Kenyon, Lauren, and Ricke'ta Turner. He was also blessed with bonus son, Keilen Williams. Ricky was a devoted husband and father. Often their biggest supporter and sometimes the unsolicited critic. He loved sports and was an avid fan of LSU and Southeastern Conference (SEC) football. He never shied away from offering his opinion on sports or anything else. Also, among his passions were fishing and cooking. He took pride in preparing delicious meals for family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed the simple thing in life like spending time with his grandchildren. He was the brother who kept the lines of communications open among his siblings, checking in frequently on each one. He was the uncle who made each of his nieces and nephews feel special. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, but, most of all, he was a child of God. Ricky accepted Christ and was baptized in 1972 at St. John Baptist Church in Phoenix, LA, by the late Rev. Percy M. Griffin, Sr. In recent years, he attended service at St. John Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. John Riley, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 44 years Catherine Turner; son: Kenyon Turner; daughters: Lauren Turner (Sheldon) of Atlanta, GA; and Ricke'ta Turner (Vanderbill); stepson: Keilen Williams (Angel); siblings: Rhonda Redmond (Nelson) of Flint, TX, Laura Turner (Johnny) of Atlanta, GA, Randy Turner (Candy) of Las Vegas, NV; mother-in-law Pearl Hill; brother-in-law: Rudy Hill; sisters-in-law: Patricia Hill, Cynthia Brocks (Clarence), Cheryl Riley, and Onethia Maxwell (Akida) of Chester, VA. Ricky is also survived by his five grandchildren: Eric Jr., Semaj, Jae'Lei, Jurnee and Kendra. One beloved Aunt Joanna Thomas. Keinthorn Riley and Nelson Redmond Jr., his two godsons, followed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends. Relatives and friends of the family, Plaquemines School Board, Belle Chase Primary, Belle Chase High School, Ace City Discount, neighboring churches in Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parish, attended the visitation and funeral service on Friday, December 10, 2021, at St. John Baptist Church, 7047 Hwy. 39, Braithwaite, LA. Officiant: Rev. John Riley Jr. Interment: St. Joseph Cemetery, Phoenix, LA.
