Robert J. "Bobby" Telotta of Gretna, LA, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021, from complications following heart surgery at the age of 84. Bobby was born May 24, 1937, in Abbeville, LA, and grew up in Jeanerette. He served in the Army National Guard after high school, then worked for Tidewater Oil before moving to the New Orleans area to work for Getty Oil as a draftsman. Once Bobby retired, you could find him fishing several days a week out of Empire where he kept a trailer for his trips there. Bobby enjoyed fishing so much that he took almost everyone who knew him to his favorite fishing spots where they were certain to catch more fish than they could take home. He had a few really close friends who were his regular fishing buddies. Anyone who's gone fishing with Bobby will remember a freezer full of fillets and a string of stories and jokes that began with "stop me if I've told you this one" and ended with Bobby laughing right through the punchline. Bobby also enjoyed going to casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and even travelled to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas with his late wife, Gwytha Telotta, during their 25-year marriage to sample their nickel slot machines. Though Bobby didn't have children of his own, he regarded his seven stepchildren as though they were. He is survived by Gwynne Kenney Shehane of Portland, TN; Gretchen Kenney of Redwood City, CA; Clifton Kenney of Raleigh, NC; Ginette Kenney of San Rafael, CA; Glynell Kenney of Gretna, LA; and Gaylinne Kenney of New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Telotta of Jeanerette; his nephew Jude Telotta of Round Rock, TX; and favorite niece, Kieran "Missy" Olivier of New Iberia, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony J. Telotta, Sr. and Vivian Goulas Telotta, his brother, Anthony J. "A.J." Telotta, his wife, V. Gwytha Telotta, and his stepson, Charles I. Kenney, III. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford Pl., New Orleans, LA. - Repast immediately following at the Parish Life Center.
