Fort St. Philip, then known as Fort Plaquemine, now lies in ruins, overgrown grass and trees, and in a bad state of deterioration. Fort St. Philip is a historic masonry fort located on the eastbank of Plaquemines Parish, about 40 miles upriver from the mouth of the Mississippi River, just opposite of Fort Jackson on the other side of the river.
