Melvin Clifford Sylve was born on June 21, 1962, Melvin was raised in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. He was the beloved son of the late Alidore Sr. & Alice Sylve & husband of the late Kennetta Franklin-Sylve. He was a loving father to his daughters, Shellie Sylve and Nia Sylve; stepdaughter, Kayondra (Herman) Mackey. He was also a proud grandfather to Amaree Ether, Amir Ether, Addisyn Black, Anthony Black Jr., and Herman Mackey III, who brought immense joy to his life. He is survived by his siblings: Alidore Sylve Jr., Alice Ancar, Gilbert (Rhonda) Sylve, Shelby (Denine) Sylve, Melinda Lightell, Vanessa (Calvin) Dinet, Calvin (Lorraine) Sylve, Sylvester (Elenora) Sylve and Rodney (Suzette) Sylve. He also leaves behind his cherished godchildren, Amiah Dinet and Corey Sylve, along with Chad Casbon, whom he loved as a son; his devoted friends, Armond Dinet III, Lonnie Greco, Eric Sylve Sr., and the late Daniel Souvinette. At 15 years old, he met his 2nd mother, Pat McCabe where he did yard work for several years. Melvin dedicated many years of service to Plaquemines Parish Government, where he operated heavy equipment with skill and pride. He was known as a hardworking, dependable man who took great pride in everything he did. He was truly a jack of all trades. Whether it was driving dump trucks for Duplessis & Sons, working on the Landfill for Kenny Stewart, repairing vehicles, carpentry, yard work, or helping someone in need, there wasn't much Melvin couldn't do. If someone had a problem, they knew exactly who to call. What made Melvin truly special wasn't just what he could do-it was the heart behind it. He gave freely of his time, talents, and resources, never expecting anything in return. The word 'no' simply wasn't in his vocabulary. He believed in showing up for people and making life a little easier for those around him. On July 7, 2026, God called Melvin home to his permanent residence, where his eternal foundation had already been prepared. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, his brother, Alvin Sylve; his brothers-in-law, Adolph Ancar, Stanley Borden, Michael Lightell; and his godparents, Manuel Barthelemy and Adele Morrison. He leaves behind a family who adored him, friends who became family, and a community forever grateful to have known him. Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we take comfort in knowing that his love, wisdom, and giving spirit will continue to live on through everyone blessed enough to have called him family, friend, Buzzard, or simply 'Melvin.'
