Verna Mae Turner Ragas

Verna Mae Turner Ragas peacefully departed this life on Saturday May 9th, at Ochsner Health Center in Gretna, Louisiana, surrounded by her five children and other family and friends. She leaves behind a life marked by devotion and committed love for her family. She was 78 years old. Verna was born to the late Leon and Elvina Williams Turner on January 5, 1948, in Potash, Louisiana. She was a native of Port Sulphur, Louisiana and after Hurricane Katrina she relocated to College Station, Texas for 19 years before making her way back home to Plaquemines Parish. She was a devoted mother to Iven and Alvin Edgerson, Dwanna Riley, Gilbert C. Ragas, Cynthia Bazile (Torrance) and the late Ian P. Ragas. A loving mother-in-law to Trinette Edgerson, Avery Riley Sr. and Kimberly B. Ragas. She was the proudest of her 22 grandchildren: Ivy (Christopher), Iva, Ivielle, Demarcus, Christopher, Alvin Jr., Ashley, Avery Jr. (Angelle), Autumn, Ashton, Shai, Tasia, Ian, Aiden, Jaeda, Jayvion, Keyvondrick, Isaiah, Lamarcus, Zaquavion, Jaydorian, and Angel along with her 7 great- grandchildren. She was the sister of Mary Parker (late Lionel), Althea Pepper (Michael), Sheila Camese (late Eddie), Vincent Turner (Devora), Myra Manuel (Alton), and Lorraine Lafrance. Verna was preceded in death by her sisters Connie and June Turner, her brother Victor Turner. Also, her nephews Cordell and Cantrell Parker, nieces Kendra Parker and Atasha Turner and her three closest friends: Mary Jane Gibson, Barbara Prout and Cecelia Reed, all of whom she missed dearly and often shared fond memories of. Verna was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all her family, friends, co-workers as well as her three Godchildren: Lorraine Williams, Dwayne Parker Sr. and Delishia Davis. Relatives and friends of the family were invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, May 16th at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church located at 27796 Hwy 23, Port Sulphur, Louisiana 70083. The visitation began at 9am followed by an 11am funeral service. Rev. Mandrel Pansy, Sr. will offi ciate. Interment Fisher Cemetery Highway 23, Port Sulphur, Louisiana.
