PABI Holds Political Forum for Upcoming October 14 Election

Just a few days before early voting for the October 14 election began on September 30, the Plaquemines Association of Business & Industry (PABI) held its political forum on September 26. At this forum, candidates for 8th Senatorial District, 105th Representative District, Assessor, and Sheri_ were given the opportunity to speak on important issues facing the parish to a crowd of voters.

Potential Land Expropriations Continue to be Issue for PPHTD

Despite the professional front the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal DIstrict (PPHTD) has put on in terms of how it’s handling the possible expropriation or acquisition of land from residents, it continues to be a major point of contention for those involved. At the September 28 PPHTD meeting, a resident who is one of the targets of these land expropriations spoke during the public comment period, stating that the process has been “one-sided,” unfair, and full of intimidation tactics.

Council Approves Raises for Government Employees

At the September 28 Plaquemines Parish council meeting, the council unanimously approved an ordinance that will provide raises to nearly all of the employees within the Plaquemines Parish Government (PPG). _ough, according to parish president Keith Hinkley, the president and council members have been excluded, every other employee—including department directors, the Judge's oce, and District Attorney’s Oce—will receive a fairly signi ant increase in their salary.

Martinez and Carlton Meet on Field Miles from Home

Two born and raised Belle Chasse football players, Ty Martinez and Luke Carlton, competed against each other in a D3 Week 1 match-up 6as the Huntingdon Hawks took on the Berry Vikings at Valhalla stadium in Rome, Georgia. Both started their football career with Plaquemines Parish’s Recreation Department and later went on to Belle Chasse Middle School where they played together on defense. Martinez decided to stay local, playing inside and outside linebacker for Belle Chasse High School graduating in 2020 and going on to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL to play outside linebacker.

Venture Global LNG Funds Free High-Speed Internet Access to South Plaquemines Community

Venture Global LNG has provided funding to the YMCA of Greater New Orleans to provide free high speed internet access to residents living in the southern part of Plaquemines Parish. _e access is available at the YMCA's community centers located in Buras and Port Sulphur. _e generous $79,000 donation from Venture Global LNG covers infrastructure improvements needed to provide wireless internet access in these two locations, as well as ongoing funding for service through the end of 2024.
