Projecting out over downtown New Orleans from the walls of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art is a massive 90-foot mural of a drum major— or the leading member of a marching band that keeps the whole band in tempo—dressed in the Mardi Gras colors of green, purple, and gold with his knee bent in the air and his head reaching towards the ground. While a mural in the middle of New Orleans may appear, upon _rst glance, to have very little to do with Plaquemines Parish, the artist responsible for the project, Keith Duncan, spent the _rst years of his life in the parish’s southern end.
