CAS Holds _ird Annual Culture and Food Festival

On Saturday, March 18 _e Croatian American Society held their annual “Croatian Culture & Food Experience” festival at their location in Jesuit Bend. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. local residents and attendees from outside of the parish were able to experience a variety of Croatian musical performances, dance performances, and food.

Plaquemines Parish Emergency Medical Service (EMS) workers who led a lawsuit against the parish government for a signicant amount of unpaid overtime were recently vindicated in federal court, receiving a judgment that will require the parish government to pay $877,000 to these workers.

Plaquemines port commissioners are once again looking to build a railway extension to the site of a proposed international container terminal. With the goal of port development in mind, commissioners voted to possibly re-engage in the controversial Sustainability Partners (SP) contract to fund this project, though many questions remain.

New Early Care Centers to Open in Parish Schools on Eastbank and Southern End

_e Plaquemines Parish Ready Start Network (PPRSN), a local organ of a state government initiative to provide early child care through Louisiana, is partnering with the Plaquemines school district to open two additional child care centers. One of these child centers will be located at South Plaquemines Elementary in Port Sulphur and the other will be at Phoenix High School in Braithwaite.

In March 14, 2023 edition of The Plaquemines Gazette, an article regarding the adjudication of a juvenile for Reckless Operation a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Violation of an Off-Road Vehicle contained an inaccurate headline. While the story is accurate, the headline referenced a different incident involving a juvenile and an injured Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy. That case is still pending. We regret the error.

I just read the article in the March7, 2023 issue of the Plaquemines Gazette regarding the “many more” features on the Plenary Bridge that will have impacts on our community. I’ll bet! Not withstanding the undisclosed toll amount, which seems to be “top secret.” It seems the toll will be disclosed only after the main artery in and out of Plaquemines Parish is completed.

Future Fishing, Seafood Industry Leaders Sought
