Minorities Can Change Schools Based on DOJ Feedback

_e Plaquemines Parish School Board (PPSB) is implementing a new policy that will allow students to attend a school outside of their residential zone if they meet certain criteria. In January 2023, ocials with the federal government came down to Plaquemines Parish to evaluate the school system’s progress in regards to racial equality since segregation in the parish public schools was forcibly ended in the late 1960s.

Federal Agency Awards Even to CPRA for Diversion

The Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority (CPRA) has received even more money for the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion planned to be built in Plaquemines Parish. In a March 8 press release published by CPRA, the state agency announced its request for $660 million from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Board had been approved.

On March 7, a dedication ceremony was held in Fort Jackson to accept the donation of a “Lafayette Trail Marker” sign from the nonpro organization _e Lafayette Trail. _e sign commemorates the 5,000 mile farewell tour through the United States taken by General Marquis de Lafayette between 1824 and 1825.

Council Discusses Oil and Gas Lawsuits in Executive Session

At the March 9 Plaquemines Parish Government (PPG) council meeting, the council entered a lengthy executive session to discuss ongoing litigation against a host of oil and gas companies. Lawsuits against ConocoPhillips, Hilcorp Energy, Chevron, and many more were included in these discussions.
