On August 23, 2026, we said goodbye to Errol (Dook) Joseph Brooks, born December 3, 1961. Errol was born to Oscar Earl Brooks (deceased) and Rena Reddick Brooks and grew up in the small town of Point à la Hache, LA, a place that shaped his quiet strength, his loyalty, and his deep love for family, and good times. His mother Rena speaks about how she will miss their daily chats about any and everything. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earl Brooks and Eva Johnson, and by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence Reddick and Helen Reddick, the latter of whom was also his beloved bonus mother - a guiding, loving presence throughout his early life. Anyone who knew Errol knew warmth - the kind that made people feel welcome, comfortable. He had a way of bringing people together, whether through a shared laugh, a simple conversation. The last few months of Errol's life were deeply challenging. He devoted himself unselfishly to caring for his sick father, carrying that responsibility with quiet strength and unwavering love. Errol lived his life with loyalty and heart. He loved his family deeply. Like his Grandma Helen, he made sure you had plenty to eat. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar, whom he lost just days before his own passing. They shared a deep love for each other. Errol was big, rugged country boy, great in stature, but a gentle giant. Surprisingly he loved to dance. He was welder by trade, a craft he took great pride in. His work allowed him to travel the country, building not only physical structures but deep connections and memories along the way. He was skillful with his hands, whether welding or working on cars. His dedication earned him several awards and honors throughout his career - recognition he never boasted about but deeply appreciated. He spoke highly of the relationships and bonds with his co-workers. Through his first marriage to Medora Parker, Errol was the proud father of Megan Brooks Norwood (Mike) and Devin Brooks (TaShuna), who carried his spirit forward with love and gratitude. He leaves behind six grandchildren - Makea, Makaia, Micah, Mason, Kash, and Wynter - each of whom brought him joy and light in their own special way. Errol later married Patricia Mitchell and was graciously welcomed into her family, a bond he cherished deeply. He became a loving stepfather to Tonya Youngblood and Kerry Mitchell, and he was proud to inherit Patricia's grandchildren Bryson, Braylen (deceased), Bishop, and Boston. Errol was very close to this family, embracing them fully and loving all of them unconditionally.
