Angela Michell Gilbert Sundy

My dearest friends and family, it is with a heavy heart that we are sharing that our beloved Angela Michell Gilbert Sundy, at the age of 47, passed away at her home, where she resided with her partner, Mark Lemaire, in New Iberia, La. Angela, known to many as 'Ann,' was a native of Buras, La., and graduate of Buras High School. She then went on to receive her cosmetology license at Remington College in Lafayette, La. After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Maurice and settled into her home in New Iberia (which was her favorite color purple). Angela was the daughter of Richard Gilbert and Corlee Guidry, and the Stepdaughter of Jenene Ducote and Danny Guidry and Ned Malley Jr. She was a proud mother of three wonderful children with her husband of 27 years, Simon Sundy, Sr.: Simon Sundy Jr (Keri), Shawn Sundy (Emma), and her daughter Sydney Sundy (Malcolm Caffery). She was blessed with two grandchildren, James Hebert and Gabriel Sundy. Angela was the eldest of seven sisters and was dearly loved and cherished by each one of them: Jamie Malley, Shelly Suir, Rachel Tankersly, Sandy Gilbert, Brittany Necaise, Janna Viator with her husband Robert Viator, and Kayla Frederick engaged to Jerome Antoine. Angela was also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Gilbert, stepfather Danny Guidry, grandparents Laura “MiMi” and Jerry Weatherly, Margaret and Warren Gilbert, her beloved Tammy Frederick Gilbert and Aunt Barbara Gilbert Franceski. Angela’s wild spirit and beautiful smile will be deeply missed, but she will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. The family will be holding a private memorial service to celebrate Angela’s life and will rest eternally at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Port Sulphur, La., with her father Richard Gilbert. In lieu of flowers we ask that love and support be provided to the family, as this is a heavy loss for all. In her life, her greatest blessings were her family. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, girlfriend and friend. May her soul rest in eternal peace. With heartfelt condolences: “Miss me a little, but not for long and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that once we shared. Miss me, but let me go.”
