Keeping up with happenings at the Plaquemines Parish Council meetings has been a part of my job for a very long time. Reporters sometimes lack the background of ongoing issues and I can offer insight as questions come up if I am aware of what was discussed at the meetings.

With Plaquemines Parish now being over two months removed from the devastation of Hurricane Ida, many residents whose properties were severely impacted (typically located in the lower end of the parish) are in the process of deciding how they will permanently rebuild their properties. But these residents are finding that new flood insurance regulations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency may prevent them from doing that.

Local veteran celebrates his 98th birthday with parade

World War II veteran, Randolph “Red” Olano, Jr., 98, was honored with a surprise birthday parade in front of his Belle Chasse home on Sunday, October 31. The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office, Belle Chasse Volunteer Fire Department (BCVFD), Alvin Callender Color Guard, community and family members in their decorated red, white and blue vehicles or on foot came to wish Olano the very best on his special day.

Dallas Narcisse crowned 2021 BCHS Homecoming Queen

Miss Dallas Delani Narcisse was named Homecoming Queen for the 2021 school year at Belle Chasse High School. Dallas was selected by her peers. She is the daughter of Mr. Drexel and Mrs. Denise Narcisse, and sister of Drexel Narcisse, Jr.

So you have a cooler full of doves, what now?

Since dove season is officially over and you’ve had time to ponder on the matter, suddenly it hits you. What the heck am I going to do with all of these doves in the freezer. As a kid we’d pick our doves and then with a pair of scissors clip off the feet, wings rear-end and make a cut down both sides of the backbone and pull the neck and backbone off. Then mom would fry them whole. After college I got a real job and moved in with my hunting buddy Bob Jett. He told me the best way to cook doves was on a grill. So that’s how I cooked them for the next 35 years.
