Dave Connell passed away peacefully at his home in Holden, La., on August 13, 2024 at the age of 101. Dave was born in Joaquin, Tx., where he was raised in a large sharecropping family. After graduating high school, Dave sought to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, experiencing combat in the Pacific Islands during WWII. After returning home, he entered the United States Navy and worked as a Seabee for several years. Upon completion of his military service, Dave married his beloved wife, Azalee. The couple lived for many years in Buras, LA, where they raised their family while Dave spent his career working in the oilfields. Upon retirement, they relocated to Holden, where Dave remained very active and enjoyed much of his time gardening, woodworking, quilting, and chauffeuring Azalee. Dave was a longtime and devoted member of the Holden Baptist Church and Springfield VFW. He was a gentle man who was known to stick to a schedule and who particularly enjoyed naps, jokes, and sweet treats. Dave is survived by his son-in-law, Floyd Bergeron, and his grandchildren, Frank Bergeron (Gabi) and Janna Stephens (Shane), along with great-grandchildren Ella Stephens, Spencer Stephens, and Enzo Bergeron, in addition to other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Dave is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Azalee, parents Dave and Lula Connell, daughter Janet Connell, son James 'Jim' Connell, his many siblings, and his beloved dog Rattler. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff at North Oaks Hospice and Home Instead for the compassionate assistance and guidance they have provided. Relatives and friends of the family attended Visitation and Funeral Service held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Holden Baptist Church. Interment: Courtney Cemetery, Holden, La.
