Rita Bradbury Bowman passed away peacefully on the afternoon of December 30, 2024, at the age of 91, surrounded by her family. Born on November 25, 1933, in Port Sulphur, LA, she was a long-time River Ridge, LA resident. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Oscar Bowman, and by her parents, Leoda Bartholomew and Edville Bradbury. Rita was also preceded in death by her siblings: Maizelle Bowman, Mildred Sumrall, Mabel Bowman, Delta Bartholomew, Era Charles, and Wallace Bradbury. Rita was known for her love of cooking, and many will fondly remember her delicious meals that brought family and friends together. She was also an avid bingo player, enjoying the camaraderie and excitement of the game for many years. But above all, Rita was the heart of her family—a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose nurturing spirit made everyone feel at home. Her maternal nature and endless capacity for love were evident in everything she did. We were truly blessed to have received her care, wisdom, and affection throughout our lives. Rita’s family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff and nurses of Compassus Hospice. She is survived by her son, Keith Bowman (Shelly); her granddaughter, Kaylah Bowers (Jon); and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Katherine, and Madelyn. Relatives and friends attended a visitation and services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery in Metairie, LA, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, followed by interment.
