Nathan Bedford Forrest Gurley passed away on April 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of music, mentorship, and wit. He was a respected teacher in Plaquemines Parish, serving at both Belle Chasse High School and South Plaquemines High School, and most recently inspired students at Riverdale High School. Family and Legacy: Nathan’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by: His beloved daughter, Veronica Gurley; His mother, Myrna Cargol Gurley; His sister, Gretchen Gurley Palmer and her husband Charlie; His niece, Lyla Palmer; His aunts, Gail Cargol Davis and Dean Gurley Melling, along with a large circle of cousins and dear friends, including his lifelong friends along Marie Drive.
