Helen Abadie Morris passed away on July 10, 2024 at the age of 94. She was born on June 15, 1930 in New Orleans, La., to the late Holland and Anna Abadie. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Helen was married to the late Charles J. Morris Jr. in 1953. She is survived by her four children, Chuck Morris (Peggy), Jan Torres (Greg), Carol Duplechain (Ray), and Eileen Hatrel (David); seven grandchildren, Michelle, Raphael, Chip, Christina, Annie, Tiffany, and Christopher; and 10 great-grandchildren, Charlie, Isabella, Gavin, Ethan, John, Raphael, Gabriel, Haley Jane, Noah, and Helen. In New Orleans, Helen graduated from Holy Name of Mary High School and earned a BA in Elementary Education from Holy Cross College. She went on to teach first and third grades at St. Julian Eymard Catholic School.
Throughout her life, Helen held firmly to her Catholic faith and modeled trust and reliance on God in every circumstance. Volunteering for the church over many years brought her great joy. She was strong and determined, a lifelong learner, cared for all those around her, participated fully in the lives of her family members, embraced new technology to keep in touch, and enjoyed being creative through painting, sewing, crocheting, Swedish weaving and other creative ventures. She was a founding member of People Program in Algiers and enthusiastically participated as a student and as an instructor. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds in her yard, playing cards, doing puzzles, and following the local sports teams. Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Relatives and friends attended the Visitation and Funeral Services on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8968 LA-23, in Belle Chasse, La.
