Michael John Crawford, Sr.

Michael John Crawford, Sr., born on September 30, 1955, departed this life on February 1, 2025, at the age of 69. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Michael touched many lives with his kind spirit, musical talents, and love for his community. Michael was a proud graduate of the Jefferson Parish Public School System, where he attended McDonough 27 Elementary School. One of his most cherished teachers was Dr. Clara Byes. A natural athlete, Michael had a deep passion for track and field, excelling in the high jump. He was also an avid table tennis player, earning a reputation as one of the best in his neighborhood. Professionally, Michael worked as a construction worker for Bose Brothers Construction Co. However, his true passion was music. Baptized in the Christian faith on September 23, 1967, by Pastor Eugene Roberson, Michael began his musical journey at his family’s church, St. Paul Baptist Church, as a young and gifted organist. Over the years, he shared his talents with many churches across the West Bank and New Orleans area, playing alongside the esteemed Herman Taylor of Evening Star Baptist Church in Harvey, LA. Michael leaves to cherish his memory his children, Michael Jr. and Leonard Crawford; his grandchildren, Jaiden, LeNard, JeLena, Jazlynn, and Lennyx; and his sister, Vanessa Walker. He will also be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Helen Crawford; his brother, James Jr.; and his sister, Margie Conway. Michael’s legacy of love, music, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Michael, as your melody plays on. Relatives and friends of the family attended the celebration of life service on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at New Sunrise Baptist Church 1325 Leboeuf Street, Gretna, LA.
