Hazel Jeanne LaFrance

Hazel Jeanne LaFrance was born on June 24, 1944, in Foster Canal, LA, to the late Azalie and Felix La France. From the very beginning, her kind heart and joyful spirit touched everyone she met. She was raised in and remained a lifelong resident of Port Sulphur, LA, where she was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Though Hazel did never married or had children, she embraced her roles as a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend with great devotion and warmth. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she found immense joy in the simple yet profound moments spent with those she loved. Whether gathered around the kitchen table or celebrating holidays, her presence brought comfort and laughter to all. Hazel had a zest for life and a love for good company. She was always ready to enjoy a game of cards, where her quick wit and playful nature would shine. She delighted in visits to the casino, where she found fun and excitement, but her greatest joy was spending time with friends and family. Her days were also filled with quiet pleasures, like completing jigsaw puzzles with great patience and care. She had a special fondness for snacking, never passing up a sweet treat or favorite snack shared among loved ones. One of her greatest joys was cooking her favorite meal, spaghetti, especially when shared with family and friends. She also found great joy in watching her favorite television shows, including Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Golden Girls, home renovation shows, Murder She Wrote, MacGyver, any Hallmark movies, and classic TV shows. These moments of entertainment brought her relaxation and happiness, often sparking conversations and laughter with those around her. A woman of faith, Hazel found strength and peace from her Catholic beliefs. Her life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the importance of connection, and the power of love shared freely. Her kind smile, gentle laughter, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her. Hazel is preceded in death by her loving parents Azalie and Felix LaFrance; her sister, Sandra Barthelemy; her brothers, Calvin LaFrance and Harold La-France Sr.; her brothers-in-law, James Blackwell, Rev. Hayward Davis, John (Mark) Barthelemy, and Roman (Chubby) Barthelemy. She leaves behind her loving family, including devoted sisters and brother, Mary Ann Blackwell, Pauline Frances Davis, and Eddie LaFrance Sr. (Jennifer); her sisters- in-law, Jessie Gause, Shirley Ann LaFrance, Barbara Gaines, Shirletta Barthelemy, Yolanda Barthelemy, Carla Phillips, and Francelia Barthelemy; her brothers in law, Olen Barthelemy Sr.; her treasured godchildren, Stephanie Barthelemy and Hayven LaFrance; and her many nieces and nephews who will carry her memory with them always. Family and friends attended her funeral services at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur, LA on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Father Gerard P. Stapleton officiated. Interment followed at Barthelemy Cemetery in Diamond, LA. Family and friends gathered after to honor her life and share stories of her love, laughter, and light.
