John Charles 'Johnny' Cleveland, formerly of Hemphill, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 57. Johnny was born on November 2, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Charles Cleveland Jr. and Nina Maude Hughes Cleveland. He was a native of Belle Chasse, Louisiana. He moved to Sabine County in 1990 and made it his home. He earned his bachelor's degree in forestry from Northwestern University and later retired from Temple-Inland in Pineland, Texas. Johnny was a member of St. Pius I Catholic Church in Hemphill. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Ducks Unlimited, and Hell or High Water Outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in hunting and spending time in nature. He is survived by his daughters, Ashlee Cleveland and Allison Cleveland-Perez; daughter-in-law, Clarissa Cleveland-Perez; his sisters, Donna Dupre, Frances Mercado, and Cecile Fernandez; his brother, Jimmy Cleveland; as well as his nephews, Charlie Burlette, Gus Dupre, Jeremy Mercado, and Brandon Mercado; and nieces, Bonnie Adams and Wendy Dupre. His funeral services were held on Friday, February 21, 2025, in Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hell or High Water Outdoors@ Ben-Mallon-4.
